Chapter - 1
A message popped up at the corner of my screen. “Lunch??” It was Kajal. She is my senior from college and we work in the same company. Her desk is two rows back of my desk. “Let’s go..”, I replied and started doing my work again. I was waiting for her to come because the exit door was on the way. She came to my desk and we left for lunch. I swiped my card and open the door for her. We reached the central area of the office which has 4 lifts operating in the 5 floor building.
The 5th floor has two cafeterias. One is Indian and other one is Continental.
The Indian one has options of Veg thali, Non-Veg thali, South Indian and Sandwiches. The Continental one has variety of cuisine from Arabian, Italian, Tandoori and few more. We entered the lift and pressed the button-4 instead of 5. Why? Because we go for lunch in a group.
Divya works on this floor. She joined this company with Kajal.
As we reached the 4th floor, Kajal called her.
“Are you hungry?”
“But you just had breakfast no?. Why do you eat so much?”, I chuckled.
“Kajal, Why do you bring this guy with you. He is my Dushman”.
Kajal and I laughed as we climbed the stairs to the 5th floor.
“Chingu… Here Chingu”, Divya called Neetha..
Neetha also joined this company with Kajal and Divya.
So there are 4 people– Divya, Neetha, Richa and Kajal, they are very close to each other, share everything and call each other Chingu (means Friends in korean).
Richa has rented a different apartment but these 3 lives in the same flat with one more flatmate.
Neetha did not listen to her. She was lost in her own thought.
She was standing right there but was not listening. She was trying to figure out what is happening around her.
She understands everything a little late just like a tube light takes time to light up.
"Hi..", Neetha replied back with a smile.
Since they all live in the same flat, they have cook and bring home cooked food. They took plate from the cafeteria and went to heat the food.
I open the food app and order Veg thali for myself. On the salad counter, I filled my plate with fryums(papad). I placed them all over my plate. The caterer rolled his eyes over me because Fryums are supposed to be a side dish not something to fill the stomach.
I took my plate and saw them sitting on a table. I put my plate and immediately they snatched the fryums from my plate. “Easy easy.. they are not running anywhere.” So those fryums were not for me, they were for them. I don’t even like oily food.
“I will kill Asif. He told me to work on multiple items. I am not doing anything”, Divya ranted. “What did he do this time, chingu?”, asked Neetha.
“I was working on UI. He came and asked me to do support also. I am not doing it.” “Haan, Don’t do it.” “My head is also aching because of work.”, Divya exclaimed.
“Achaa.. mujhe laga ki laddoo zyada khaaye aapne to shayad dimaag me chhad gye”, I giggled.
“I don’t eat like you.”
“You eat so much. You are an animal.”
“You are an animal, not me.”
“Kajal, remember that sound that we hear sometime on our floor. That is her voice. She shouts so much that we can hear it on our floor also.”
“No, I don’t hear anything. You only talk so much.” said Kajal taking Divya’s side.
“Neetha, You tell no? You do hear her voice even on your floor, right?”
“Chingu, tell him. Do you hear my voice?”
“But chingu.. I wouldn’t know that. I don’t understand language of animals no?” Neetha answered without even thinking.
Everyone started laughing.
“Chinguuu...”, Divya scolded Neetha. “Tum Aurat..tumhe to mai ghar par batati hu.”
We finished eating and went to the hand wash area to keep the plates and to wash our hands. Neetha works on the 5th floor, so we bid bye to her. Divya, Kajal and I took stairs to our floors.
We reached our desk and started working. We don’t really like the work. But anyways we are doing it because that is how we pay our bills. Sometimes it becomes really hectic. Spending 12-14 hours a day and logging back again after reaching home. Not sure if we are working to live or living to work.
See. In this chaotic world, everything go so fast. You don’t have time for yourself to think what you really want out of this life. As I was thinking all of this, a message popped up on my screen.
